In any business, people are your greatest asset. You can invest in all the tech and all the product development and all of the marketing in the world, but nothing is more important than investing in the right people and building a team that works well together.
Recently, a busy executive at a tech company that signed up for our learning management software contacted us, because he was having trouble uploading a CSV file that would enable him to invite employees to the program. As we helped him solve the issue, we checked out his LinkedIn page expecting to see that he was an HR executive.
To our surprise, he was the CEO!
Needless to say, we were blown away by his dedication. Considering that the company is growing at a rapid pace, it’s even more impressive that this CEO is choosing to put so much of his time and energy into developing his team.
Typically, senior leaders spend more of their time on things like sales, strategy, and marketing. But, a CEO who is so intimately involved in the people part of his business is going to go far. Senior leaders need to be much more involved with hiring, developing, and retaining people, because a company’s success as a whole is in large part determined by the people who constitute its parts.
While being so involved in hiring talent and nurturing professional development is certainly challenging and demanding when there are so many other things that need to get done, HR is an area where the senior leadership needs to be spending much of its time.
Investing so much in people at the very beginning will ensure the long-term health and success of your business.
